Ben is new to the BaseCamp Crew this year but not new to Patagonian waters. This is his third season "down South" and loves nothing more than catching fish below the equator! His motto he preaches to those he fishes with is: "Make them eat it!"
Ben has fished as long as he can remember and still enjoys fly fishing for big striper, bass, and redfish when he visits his home waters in Texas. Born in Lake Tahoe, Ben grew up in Texas where he attended Texas A&M University and earned a degree in Rural Entrepreneurship. In the Chilean winters Ben guides in Bristol Bay, Alaska with his 35 pound bear dog, Miga. He has guided and fished throughout the American West and manages to still sneek in trips all over between the "summer" seasons.
A devoted tyer, Ben loves the charm associated with fishing in out of the way places and the fact that a newly tied pattern tied a certain way will most definitely be the ticket this time! Patagonia has captured Ben with the funky big dry flies, the dynamic lake and river systems, the outrageous scenery, the tasty asados and vino, and the mystery of more or less untouched water where fly fishermen can still figure things out for the first time.
